So, despite my grumblings about going to a weddinga few weeks ago, I did really have some fun at the ghetto-fabulous* wedding. I got to see people that I haven't seen in some time, and had a chance to catch up with old friends. And I had a laugh or two....at other's expense. Or perhaps I was laughing with them- yeah, that's it - they were just laughing on the inside.
Anyway, the collage below shows some great pics of the day. Dave - in his gangsta tux. (The white boutinneer really highlights the white in the wing-tips, don'tyathinksotoo?) My in my cute sundress... with blaring farmer's tan, all the guys sardined in at the front of the church (there were 11), new friends, old friends, and a really beautiful bride.
(you can click on the collage for a larger view)
*Really, we use ghetto-fabulous as a term of endearment, not judgement. Dave likes to reference his childhood neighborhood as the 'hood, and his friends as ghetto-rats. FYI: these boys grew up on 43rd. St. (really, not the ghetto), and deemed themselves the Four-tre posse'. I'm married to "Paperboy D." Yep...even as a child, the boy was a worker.
There's a story behind the video below. When I was just pregnant with Adam (and no one else knew yet), Dave and I went to a wedding. He took full advantage of knowing he had a designated driver that night. Full advantage. Anyway, the song Footloose came on...Dave decided he was Kevin Bacon. He went out there, and danced over the entire floor.
The.entire.floor.
Then, his dad joined in. Then, his brother joined in. Then the other brother. I was a sight to behold. Four Hop men flailing their arms and legs awesomely dancing all over the floor.
People stopped and stared.
They gathered around the floor.
Yep...that kind of sight.
Anyway, now its a tradition of sorts. After a few drinks, the song gets played, and I stand on the side and cheer my Mr. Bacon on. This wedding was no exception.
This time I brought my camera...with the video option. :)
So, when I noticed the deejay struggling to play songs that everyone would dance to, I went to request THE song. He asked me if I knew of people who would dance. I told him that I could guarantee at least one.
So, I stood back, secured my spot on the side of the dance floor and pulled out the camera.
While Dave did have to fly solo that night without his wingmen (dad and brothers), we'd like to think that he did them proud.
Enjoy.
I think I'm in love.
Just fyi- I do have his permission to publish it! But I'm kind of afraid that once people start razzing him (or the crazy groomsman who's macking on a bridesmaid) about his dancing skillz, he may ask me to take it down. So, get your views on while you can!!!
I think my mom has always been a "big purse" kind of gal. As long as I can remember, she's always had a big purse- and always with three or more compartments. Until I became a mom, I never really realized the necessity of carrying so much stuff. Well, now that I'm mom, I get it. Being the caregiver, banker, medical assistant, entertainer, chef, and all around go-to person for little ones does require having a few necessities on hand. That being said, I am now a "medium purse" kind of gal.
This video was taken when my mom was visiting a few weeks ago. Colin was trying to carry it actoss the floor.
The following video was taken on Mother's Day afternoon. Dave took the boys outside for some football while I started dinner and worked on a few audits. While working, I heard my boys and my husband playing outside. I heard grunts, groans, and big belly laughs. Needlesstosay, my work time actually became spectator time.
It was in this moment, watching from my kitchen window, that I realized just how blessed I am. I'm so thankful for all God has given me- and thankful that He knows what He's doing when he matches a husband and wife. I can't think of anyone else I'd rather be married to. I'm so proud that he's the father of my children.
This video isn't a beach in the Bahamas, and its not a fancy mansion. It's just a daddy playing in the back yard with his boys. It's my life, and I'm so thankful.
I'm even thankful for the dog poop. :)
I'm even more thankful that its not my job to pick it up.
When I was little, my grandma used to take us home with her after church so my mom could finish some obligations she had on Sunday mornings. We had a blast with her. She used to make us a snack of cinnammon toast (butter, powered sugar and cinnamon) and load us up with Tang. Then, we'd play Old Maid until my mom came to get us. By the time she arrived, the sugar was sinking in and we were bouncing off the walls for the next few hours. While my mother probably didn't appreciate the sugar loading, Dan and I loved it!
That's the preface to the video below. I'm assuming that this is one of those moments for Colin. While at my parent's yesterday, my mom was frosting a confirmation cake. Afterward, Colin won the lottery....
You know your baby is growing up when he starts getting invited to friend's birthday parties. This one was for a good friend of ours, Sabrina. Coincidentally...we're almost family. Kathy's little brother is married to Dave's little sister. I'm glad, too because it brought some AWESOME people into our lives.
At first, C. was just interested in all the cool toys! There was a zebra balloon he was quite fond of. I was almost afraid that he was going to pop it!!!
We started by singing the fishy song...really cute, but C. didn't quite know what to think.
Birthday girl, Sabrina and her mommy, Kathy.
Happy Birthday, Sabrina!!!
The whole party clan. Fun group of kids and adults.
Then, we felt overly ambitious and decided to get one of all the kiddos without parents!
When we went to leave, Sabrina came to give C. a hug..which he wasn't fond of (we really haven't taught him how to hug others yet, so he wasn't sure) so C. just waved bye-bye to 'Brina. Happy birthday, big girl!!!
What a fun morning! Sabrina and C. say, "Hi Uncle Mike and Aunt Erin!!! Thanks for introducing us, we are having lots of fun playing together!"
This video is actually a month or two old since he is now too big for that outfit he's wearing, but I wanted to post it anyway. I love his nnnneeeeyyyy. My fav.
In spring 2005, we shoe-horned our family of 3 (and a 100 pound dog) into the 780 sq. ft. house. SEVEN years of stuff and another son later, we're in the new side! An unexpected pregnancy pushed our progress even faster, and now the old side has been torn down, and is currently being rebuilt to accommodate our GROWING family! Updates come frequently, so be sure to keep stopping by for new pictures.
