Failure, redemption....and *perhaps* a little bit of over compensation

Remember my epic fail post?

First of all, thank you for the encouragement!  Y'all are great.

Normally, I can hold my own in the kitchen.

I can cook complicated dinners, but baked goods is usually were I shine.

Like my mother, baking is therapeutic to me.

So, when this showed up:
Ugh...I got frustrated!  I'm not used to failure in the kitchen!

So, I realized I made a few mistakes.

First, FREEZE the cake balls for at least 12 hours before covering.  It makes a huge difference.
Second, get the colored candy melts.  I skimped and purchased the white (less money for more ounces), and tried to add the color...which is what made it harden up.

So, since I still had 2 sets of cake balls in the freezer, I thought I'd give it another go.

And this is what I came up with:

 REDEMPTION!

While they're not the prettiest, they got the job done, and I am no longer a cake-ball flunkie.

So, then I had left over melted candy melts, so I dug out our pretzel bag and made a batch of these:

And the night my bundt cake failed, I decided that cupcakes would be a safe bet.

So, I whipped up a batch of these:

And, while I'm not really a competitive person, I'm happy to say that A's class was the one that won the money for the most cake walk donations!!!    I'm so proud of all the mom's (and dad's) that helped out!

Way to go sista!! I love a good comeback, well done. Are those petals marshmallows? I think I've seen those in a Women's World magazine around Easter time and thought there was no way mine would ever come out so pretty. I'm impressed!! :)
