Faux pas?

I started a little debate on my facebook page about politics and where our nation is headed.

Faux pas?

Not sure.

I got a fun email about it, though.

My question is:

Why is it not ok to talk about politics?

and for that matter:

Why is it not ok to talk about religion?

Aren't these two subjects what pretty much rule our lives?

Don't they dictate every decision and action we take?

What do you think?

I think it is because people have such strong opinions on these two subjects. People are trying so hard to be politically (and religiously - yeah, I just made that up!) correct.

I wish I were on FB so I could read your debate!

I agree with Kimberly. They're hush-hush topics because they're debatable. And nobody wants to step on anyone else's toes or make someone mad at them. It seems like it has the whole, "I believe what I believe and you believe what you believe and we won't discuss it for the sake of our own image." Sort of relativism, if you ask me.

What I'm finding - in talking about it with people- is that there's a rediulous amount of ignorance out there. Apparently, I've taken it upon myself to educate a few of the ignorant. :)

I agree. I don't think it's not OK to talk about politics. It's just uncomfortable because people have such strong differing opinions.
